Certification of hotel
Different countries show different approach to certification of hotel services. In many countries, certification of accommodation services and hotel services is mandatory. In other countries, certification of hotel services is voluntary.
Certification of hotel services in Ukraine
As authorized certification body, LLC “SE Zhitomirstandart” actively performs the work on certification of temporary accommodation services (provided by hotels, motels, sanatoriums) and evaluation of accommodation facilities (to meet the requirements of certain category).
Assigning of category to tourist infrastructure facilities (hotels, other facilities for provision of accommodation services, etc.) – to improve the level of tourist services, assist the customers in conscious selection of tourist services, ensure the equal opportunities for subjects of tourist activity in tourist service market, ensure protection of rights and legitimate interests, life, health, and property of citizens. According to Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Decree No. 1054 dated October 17, 2011 “On Amendments to Procedure of Assigning the Categories to Hotels and Other Temporary Accommodation Facilities”, functions of authorized body on assigning the categories are implemented by State Agency of Ukraine for Tourism and Resorts.
Hotels and other facilities providing the temporary accommodation services are assigned with categories by results of voluntary certification of temporary accommodation services.
Certification body LLC “SE Zhitomirstandart” provides certification of hotel services in the following areas:
- hotels with restaurants;
- hotels without restaurants;
- youth hostels and mountain refuges;
- camping services (including the van parking services);
- rest centers and rest homes;
- sanatorium and resort facilities (healthcare services);
- short-term renting of furnished rooms;
- arrangement of places in sleeping cars, cruise ships, and other vehicles or water crafts.
